Opening hours at the Legalisation Office of the Department of Consular Affairs and Citizenship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade:

Submission of documents is possible on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 9 am -12 noon. Please note that taking number tickets is possible until 10:30 am.

The legalised document can be collected on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm, on Friday between 11 am -12 noon.

On Friday, only the collection of documents is possible.

Anybody may submit documents without a written authorisation and may collect it with the acknowledgement receipt.

The processing time of the documents is governed by Act CL of 2016 on General Public Administration Procedures. A summary proceeding (lasting for a maximum of 8 days) is available if  all relevant facts of the case may be ascertained relying on the complete application and the data at the authority’s disposition, otherwise – if a full hearing is necessary- the processing time may last for a maximum of 60 days. Taking into consideration that during the summer months an extremely large number of documents are submitted for legalisation, the special (preferential) procedure applied regularly during other months of the year, i.e. that the legalised document can be collected on the day following submission between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm (except on Friday, see above), provided that the Legalisation Office is in possession of the necessary sample signatures, is only applied if the daily intake of documents so allows.

The authentication fee is 5.500 Ft to be paid in cash.

No submission on Fridays!

Authenticated documents can be collected the earliest between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. the day following submission.

“All Hungarian citizens are entitled to enjoy the protection of Hungary while legally residing or staying abroad.” Par. (3), Art. 69, The Constitution of the Republic of Hungary.

“Hungary performs the protection of the interests of Hungarian citizens abroad by way of the consular services (consular protection).” Par. (1), Art. 1 of Act XLVI of 2001 on Consular Protection.
